PrefixBook

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

This policy explains what PrefixBook collects when you read the site, use the prefix reader or write to us. The short version is that we collect very little, and the table shows all of it.

What we hold, why, and for how long

No account, no tracking

You do not need an account to use PrefixBook. The site does not set cookies. We run no analytics, no advertising and no third-party scripts, and we load no third-party fonts. Nothing on a page reports your visit to another company. We do not sell your information and we do not pass it on to data brokers.

Why a number you type can sit in a log

When you submit a number, our server reads the digits to build the result page for that single request. We do not attach the number to a profile or to you. The catch is that the number travels in the web address of the request, so the standard logs kept by the web server contain it, together with your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and the time. Those entries expire within about a week, and we use them to keep the site working and to spot abuse, nothing else.

Because of this, please do not type a number you would not want to appear in a server log for a week. If you only want to learn how prefixes work, the guides need no number at all.

Your messages

If you use the contact form, the details in the table are stored in a file so that we can read and answer your message. The hashed IP address is used only to limit repeated submissions and cannot easily be turned back into your address. If you email us directly, the message is kept for the same period and used only to respond to you. We use contact messages to reply, to fix errors on our pages and, with your consent, to improve a guide that your question showed to be unclear.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not hand it to anyone for marketing, and we do not use it for profiling or automated decisions about you. We may disclose logs or messages if the law requires it, for example in answer to a valid legal order, and we will limit what we disclose to what the order demands.

Your California rights

If you live in California, the CCPA and CPRA give you the right to know what personal information a business holds about you, to ask for it to be deleted or corrected, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, but you may still make a request. Write to [email protected], say what you would like, and give us enough detail about your visit, such as the approximate time and the page, for us to search the logs. A request about the server logs may be answered by explaining that the entries expire within about a week. We will not treat you differently for making a request. Residents of other states may write to the same address and we will do our best to respond in a similar way.

Security, children and links

We keep the amount of stored data small on purpose, because data that does not exist cannot leak. No method of storing or sending information is perfectly secure, and we cannot promise otherwise, but the design of the site keeps the risk low. PrefixBook is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us a message, email us and we will delete it. Our guides link to official sites such as the FTC, the FCC and the Do Not Call Registry. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control.

Changes

If we change this policy, the date at the top will change with it. Questions can be sent to [email protected] or through the contact page. The disclaimer repeats the Do Not Sell or Share statement in short form, and the terms of use cover the rules for using the site.
