Terms of use

Last updated: October 6, 2026

These terms govern your use of PrefixBook, a website of general information about phone prefixes and dialing. Each clause is numbered so that it can be cited.

  1. Acceptance
    1. By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
    2. We may change the site, the prefix reader or these terms at any time. When the terms change, the date at the top changes too, and using the site after a change means you accept the new version.
  2. Purpose of the site
    1. PrefixBook is provided for information and education. The guides and the prefix reader are meant to help ordinary people understand phone numbers and decide how to handle calls.
    2. They are not a substitute for professional advice, for the terms of your phone plan or for the official guidance of the FTC, the FCC and other agencies. This is general information and not legal advice.
  3. Acceptable use
    1. You agree to use the site lawfully.
    2. You must not use anything you learn here to harass, stalk, threaten, defraud or track another person, or to place unwanted calls or messages.
    3. You must not try to disrupt the site, overload it with automated requests, probe it for weaknesses or copy it in bulk.
    4. The prefix reader shows facts about area codes and does not identify people. You must not present its output as proof of who a caller is.
  4. Accuracy and no warranty
    1. We try to keep every page correct and dated, but phone rules, carrier features and area code assignments change.
    2. The site and the tool are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any promise of accuracy, completeness, availability or fitness for a particular purpose.
    3. A result from the reader is a hint drawn from the digits and may be wrong or out of date.
  5. Limitation of liability
    1. To the fullest extent the law allows, PrefixBook and its operator are not liable for any loss, charge, damage or inconvenience that arises from using the site or from relying on it, including phone charges, missed calls and decisions made about unknown callers.
    2. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
  6. Links and third parties
    1. We link to official websites and sometimes to other resources. We do not control them, we do not endorse everything on them and we are not responsible for what they say or do.
    2. Names of companies and agencies are used only to refer to them and imply no connection.
  7. Content
    1. The text, illustrations and design of the site belong to its operator.
    2. You may link to any page and quote short passages with a link back. Please do not republish whole pages, and do not remove dates or attribution when you quote.
  8. Privacy
    1. How we handle information is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
    2. In short: no accounts, no cookies, no analytics, server logs held for about a week and contact messages held until twelve months after we reply.
  9. Availability and termination
    1. We may suspend or restrict access to the site, for any visitor, without notice, for example if automated traffic threatens its operation or if someone breaks these terms.
    2. We do not promise that the site will always be available, that it will be free of errors or that a page will stay at the same address. If a page is removed or moved, we try to keep a link from the old address, but we make no commitment to do so.
  10. Governing law
    1. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
  11. Contact
    1. Questions about these terms can be sent to [email protected] or through the contact page. See also the disclaimer.
